A Sound Experiment
I have been experimenting with ‘text-to-speech’ technology and thought I would share an example of my progress with you, Triptico’s expert community of educators!
Beyond the Listen Resource
There is already a ‘text-to-speech’ resource on the website (called ‘Listen’) but the quality and the user-experience varies wildly from browser to browser, device to device.
This new approach, if implemented, would result in a consistent output for all users.
Try for Yourself
You can click the image at the top of this newsletter or click here to try the simple example I have put together.
With each button press, a line of text is converted to audio and spoken.
Your Feedback is Valuable!
All feedback will be appreciated, especially concerning:
The quality of the ‘spoken’ text.
How you would like to be able to use this feature.
Ideas…
I have had a few initial ideas for how this could be used:
My first thought was that it could be a helpful new template for the Lesson Builder.
A simple slide with a button to ‘speak’ a line of text - perhaps with space for teachers to add a question or an instruction related to the audio?
I also thought it could be helpful as a new quiz resource - or perhaps as an addition to an existing resource (an option in the Bingo resource to ‘speak’ the clues rather than displaying them as text, perhaps?).
A Lesson Builder template to enable you to create an audio glossary?
Students could click to hear the pronunciation of words that will be important during the lesson.
Could text-to-speech be combined with AI to dynamically generate questions related to an extract of text? Would this be a helpful new resource or Lesson Builder template?
I have also been thinking about activities that could incorporate sound - and created a quick ‘mock-up’ in the image below.
The idea being that you would ‘click’ each person to hear them speak and then drag them around the screen according to whether the words they say are true or false!
As ever, all ideas and feedback appreciated!
Thank you for supporting Triptico!
Your support is very much appreciated. Without you, it would not be possible to continue Triptico’s exciting development.
In the last month or so, I have been able to add a brand new version of the Lesson Builder and have also added an AI Assistant to the process of creating Triptico activities.
Two huge new additions to the site that have resulted in much positive feedback.
And so, again, if you have friends and colleagues who may not know about Triptico then please share this newsletter or a link to the site with them.
We have Triptico users all around the world - anything that you can do to spread the word in your community or country will be very much appreciated.
Until next time,
David
