I have added a brand new resource to the Triptico website: Number Challenge – a fast-paced maths game designed to sharpen mental arithmetic skills in a fun, customisable way.
This game was developed in response to a request I received via email:
“If there could be a maths game that would include addition with changeable parameters e.g. 0-20 or 0-100, subtraction, multiplication within the 12 × table, with a timer, adding up correct and incorrect – that would be very exciting!”
So, I have created a new resource and added it to the Bonus Resource section of the website:
Bonus resources are normally reserved for subscribers – a small thank you for their support – but I’ve made an exception for this one.
As Number Challenge may be useful for students to access independently (in class or at home), I’ve removed the subscriber restriction.
You can access the resource via the Bonus Resource section, via the direct link (Number Challenge Resource) or via the QR code below:
🔢 How It Works
Choose your answer range – from 0–20 all the way up to 0–120.
Select operations – addition, subtraction, multiplication – any combination.
The greater the range and the more operations selected, the greater the multiplier that will be applied to your final score!
Answer as many questions as possible before the timer (displaying 14 seconds in the image below) runs out!
Your score is calculated based on accuracy, difficulty settings and speed.
Finally, it works brilliantly on touchscreen devices too – there's even a custom number keyboard if you're playing on an iPad or tablet.
Please let me know your thoughts – and, of course, your highest score! – if you give the resource a go.
Hexagon Resource Updates 🎉
I've also made some updates to the Hexagon resource – again based on feedback from teachers using it in the classroom.
“If there happened to be a possibility of using numbers for hexagons, that would be ace – EAL students have to grapple with an extra set of vocab when we use icons and an unfamiliar alphabet when we use initials.”
This is such a helpful point and I’m happy to say it’s now possible to:
Display numbers on each hexagon, as an alternative to icons or initials
Use images as answers, perfect for EAL learners or visual topics
These additions help to make the game more accessible and adaptable, while keeping the core gameplay exciting and competitive.
💬 Help Spread the Word!
If you enjoy using Triptico and think others might too, I’d be incredibly grateful if you could share it with friends, colleagues or your wider teaching network.
The new Number Challenge resource was created in response to a request from a maths teacher – and I’d love for more maths teachers to know it exists!
If you’re in a maths department (or know someone who is), please feel free to pass it on.
A quick mention in a WhatsApp group, a tweet, or a post in your favourite teacher forum really would make a huge difference!
Thank you 🙏 - David.
